Usingrecoverymedia
OntheWindows7operatingsystem,youcanuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactory
defaultsettingsonly.Youcanuserecoverymediatoputthecomputerinanoperationalstateafterall
othermethodsofrecoveryhavefailed.
Attention:Whenyouuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,allthefiles
currentlyonthestoragedeviceswillbedeletedandreplacedbythefactorydefaultsettings.
TouserecoverymediaontheWindows7operatingsystem,dothefollowing:
1.Dependingonthetypeofyourrecoverymedia,connectthebootmedium(memorykeyorotherUSB
storagedevice)tothecomputer,orinsertthebootdiscintotheopticaldrive.
2.RepeatedlypressandreleaseF12whenturningonthecomputer.WhentheBootMenuwindowopens,
releaseF12.
3.SelectthedesiredstartupdeviceandpressEnter.Therestoreprocessbegins.
4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetheoperation.
Note:Afterrestoringyourcomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,youmighthavetoreinstalldevicedrivers
forsomedevices.See“Reinstallingpreinstalledprogramsanddevicedrivers”onpage96.
Performingbackupandrecoveryoperations
TheRescueandRecoveryprogramenablesyoutobackupallyourstoragedevicescontentsincludingthe
operatingsystem,datafiles,softwareprograms,andpersonalsettings.Youcandesignatewherethe
RescueandRecoveryprogramstoresthebackup:
•Inaprotectedareaofyourstoragedevices
•Onthesecondarythestoragedevicesifthereisone.
•OnanattachedexternalUSBharddiskdrive
•Onanetworkdrive
•Onrecordablediscs(arecordableopticaldriveisrequiredforthisoption)
Afteryouhavebackedupthecontentsonthestoragedevices,youcanrestorethecompletecontentsofthe
storagedevices,restoreonlytheselectedfiles,orrestoreonlytheWindowsoperatingsystemandprograms.

2.IntheRescueandRecoverymainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecoveryarrow.
3.ClickBackupyourharddriveandselectbackupoperationoptions.Then,followtheinstructionson
thescreentocompletethebackupoperation.
