Staticelectricityprevention
Staticelectricity,althoughharmlesstoyou,canseriouslydamagecomputercomponentsandoptions.
Improperhandlingofstatic-sensitivepartscancausedamagetothepart.Whenyouunpackanoptionor
aCustomerReplaceableUnit(CRU),donotopenthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthepart
untiltheinstructionsdirectyoutoinstallthepart.
WhenyouhandleoptionsorCRUs,orperformanyworkinsidethecomputer,takethefollowingprecautions
toavoidstatic-electricitydamage:
•Limityourmovement.Movementcancausestaticelectricitytobuilduparoundyou.
•Alwayshandlecomponentscarefully.Handleadapters,memorymodules,andothercircuitboardsbythe
edges.Nevertouchexposedcircuitry.
•Preventothersfromtouchingcomponents.
•Whenyouinstallastatic-sensitiveoptionorCRU,touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthe
parttoametalexpansion-slotcoverorotherunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthecomputerforatleasttwo
seconds.Thisreducesstaticelectricityinthepackageandyourbody.
•Whenpossible,removethestatic-sensitivepartfromthestatic-protectivepackageandinstallthepart
withoutsettingitdown.Whenthisisnotpossible,placethestatic-protectivepackageonasmooth,
levelsurfaceandplacethepartonthepackage.
•Donotplacethepartonthecomputercoverorothermetalsurface.
Disablingthebuilt-inbattery
Beforereplacinganyhardwarecomponent,ensurethatyouhavedisabledthebuilt-inbatterybydoing
thefollowing:
1.Turnoffyourcomputeranddisconnecttheacpoweradapterandallcablesfromthecomputer.
2.Turnonyourcomputer.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,immediatelypressF1tostarttheThinkPad
Setupprogram.
3.SelectConfig➙Power.ThePowersubmenuisdisplayed.
4.SelectDisableBuilt-inBatteryandpressEnter.
