Aftertreatmentdieselparticulatelter(DPF)regeneration,whetherthemovingor
parkedvariety,canbestoppedifthevehicleisequippedwithaDPFSmartswitch
(referto
“AftertreatmentDPFSmartSwitch”,page24formoreinformation).A
regenerationshouldbestoppedonlywhennecessary.Tostoparegenerationthatisin
progress,presstheDPFSmartswitchtotheDOWNposition.Theswitchwilllock
intotheDOWNposition,andtheicononthebottomoftheswitchwillbeilluminated
toindicateregenerationhasbeenstopped.

CAUTION
WhentheDPFSmartSwitchispressed
totheDOWNposition,theswitch
willremainlockedinthisposition
andpreventaftertreatmentDPF
regenerationfromoccurring.Therefore,
itisimportanttopresstheswitchback
tothemiddlepositionandtoreturnit
tostandbymodewhensafetodoso.
Failuretosettheswitchbacktothe
MIDDLEpositionmayresultinengine
derate,acloggedAftertreatmentDiesel
ParticulateFilter(DPF),damagetothe
lterandengineshutdown.
CAUTION
FailuretoperformaaftertreatmentDPF
regenerationinatimelymannermay
resultinenginederate,acloggedor
damagedDPF,damagetothelterand
engineshutdown.
Iftheoperatorstopsorinhibitsregenerationrepeatedly,theDPFwillbegintoclog
withsootandengineexhaustgaspressurewillincrease.Eventuallytheenginewill
derateandultimatelyshutdown.Belowisaquicklookatthetypeofregenerations,
conditionsoftheexhaustaftertreatmentsystemandtheactiontobetaken.
