DaytimeRunningLights(DRL)comestandardonallMACKvehiclesandcanbe
optionedwithorwithoutanoverrideswitch.WhentheDRLoverrideswitchhasbeen
specied,differentconditionscanbeselectedthatcausetheDRLtoautomatically
activate.DRLcanbeautomaticallyturnedonwhentheparkingbrakeisreleased,the
engineisrunningorboth.Onlyoneofthesechoicesmaybeselected.UsingDRL
willilluminatethelowbeamheadlampbulbsataslightlyreducedintensity.TheDRL
functionwillmonitorhighbeamsaswell.Ifthehighbeamsareactivated,theDRL
willbetemporarilyturnedoffuntilhighbeamuseceases.
DRLsofferadditionalsafetywhendrivinginlowlightconditionswhentheoperator
maynotnormallyturntheheadlightson.Havingheadlightsonatalltimesmakesthe
vehicleeasiertospotinbadweather,duskorshadeorwhenthereisglare.DRLoffer
theabilityfordriverstogiveacourtesyashasasignalwhenitissafetomerge
intoanotherlaneonthehighway.TurningDRLofftemporarilyforslowlyrolling
throughweighstationsorwhenwaitinginlinetoreceivebillandweighingtickets
isconvenient.
WhentheoperatorpressestheDRLoverrideswitch,theheadlampswillgooutif
belowtheDRLspeedthresholdandashifabovetheDRLspeedthresholdfora
designatedperiodoftime(customerprogrammableinVCADS).Itisalsopossibleto
toggletheheadlampsbackonifnecessary.
