3.2 Preliminary
Prior to assembly, ensure that the pipelines are freed from
any contamination. Any contamination, such as welding,
rust or dirt can impair the seal-tightness of the on/off (but-
terfly) valve and damage the sealing surface of the on/off
disc or the sealing elements. This applies especially to the
assembly of valves in the new installations. Even during
operation, the medium may not carry any contamination
that can deposit in the sealing area.
If the on/off disc extends beyond the installation length of
the valve, then the on/off (butterfly) valve must be closed
before installation (pneumatic, hydraulic etc.). It is manda-
tory to ensure that the energy supply lines are secured and
not damaged or ruptured during installation under any cir-
cumstances.
If the power supply is interrupted suddenly, the valve opens
abruptly due to the pre-stressed spring assembly. This can
lead to serious injury and to material damage.
Lifting gear is required for installing larger on/off (butterfly)
valves in the piping. The weight of the on/off (butterfly) valve
including the actuator can be found in the job-related docu-
mentation.
3.3 Installation
Proceed as follows for installing the on/off (butterfly) valve:
Turn the on/off (butterfly) valve in such a manner that
the arrow (P for pressure) on the body points to the
pressure direction of the process. (see Figure 6 Pressure
direction)
Figure 6 Pressure direction
Close the on/off (butterfly) valve for the assembly. In the
open position, the sealing surface of the on/off disc can
protrude out of the body and be damaged during instal-
lation.
Note the minimum inner diameter of the pipeline in
accordance with ASME B36.10M
ASME B36.19M and / or DIN EN 10305-2 and DIN EN
10305-5.
Use a seal that is suitable for your application on both
sides of the on/off (butterfly) valve between the body
and the flanges facing each other. Both seals are not
part of the standard delivery. We deliver the required
seals at your request.
Use the dimensions of the stud bolts itemized in Table 1-
12 for assembly.

Exercise caution while installing valves with
the failsafe position "spring opens"
Always secure the lifting to the body, never to the
actuator; otherwise, the shaft may be damaged (see
Figure 1)
