7.5 Cleaning the uptake needle
Clean the uptake needle of the robotic needle arm regularly to prevent contamination or clogging. Clean the
uptake needle by wiping it with tissue and an appropriate disinfectant, e.g. 70% ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, or
10% bleach. Finally, rinse with distilled water. Move the robotic needle arm up and down to get access to the
entire surface. Calibrate the robotic needle arm afterwards (refer to Calibrating the sample uptake unit on
page61).
7.6 Exchange the sample needle
Before exchanging the sample needle, make sure that the needle is in its home position (that is the needle is
hidden within the needle arm).

1 Switch off the instrument.
2 Remove the needle holder from the needle arm. Make sure not to bend the needle too far to the front.
3 Lift the needle upwards to remove from the needle sealing.
