7.15.3 Engine coolant – Draining
Preconditions
☑ Engine shut down and starting disabled.
WARNING
Coolant is hot and under pressure.
Risk of injury and scalding!
• Let the engine cool down.
• Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles / safety mask.
Preparatory steps
1. Provide a suitable receptacle to catch the coolant.
2. Switch off preheating unit.
Draining engine coolant
1. Turn breather valve of filler neck on coolant expansion tank counterclockwise to first stop and allow pres‐
sure to escape.
2. Continue to turn breather valve counterclockwise and remove.
3. Draw off separated corrosion inhibitor oil in expansion tank through the filler neck.
4. Open drain valves and/or drain plugs and
drain coolant at the following points:
• HT coolant pump elbow;
• At crankcase, A and B sides
• At the preheating unit
5. Close all open drain points.
6. Position breather valve on filler neck and
close.
Final steps
u Switch on preheater.
