7.16.3 Charge-air coolant – Drainage
Preconditions
Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
Special tools, Material, Spare parts
Designation / Use Part No. Qty.
Sealing ring

WARNING
Coolant is hot and under pressure.
Risk of injury and scalding!
Let the engine cool down.
Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles / safety mask.
Draining charge-air coolant
1. Provide a suitable receptacle to catch the
coolant.
2. Turn breather valve of coolant expansion
tank counterclockwise until the first stop
and allow pressure to escape.
3. Continue to turn breather valve counter‐
clockwise and remove.
4. Draw off separated corrosion inhibitor oil in
expansion tank through the filler neck.
5. Open drain valves and/or drain plugs and
drain coolant at the following points:
at the LT coolant pump
at the coolant lines to and from the
charge-air cooler
6. Draining of residual coolant:
at charge-air cooler
7. Close all drain valves and screw in drain
screws with new sealing rings.
8. Place breather valve on filler neck and
close.
