To
remove
the
piston
tube
and
fork
assembly
(17)
from
the
cylinder
(9),
proceed
as
follows:
1.
Separate
the
upper
and
lower
torque
links
by
removing
the
connecting
nut,
washer
and
bolt.
2.
Compress
the
piston
tube
and
fork
assembly
slightly
and
remove
the
retainer
ring
(10)
from
the annular
slot
in
the bottom
of
the cylinder
tube.
Then
remove
piston
tube
and
fork
assembly
by sliding
out
from
the
bottom
of
the cyl-
inder
tube.

To remove
the
bearing
assembly
from
the
piston
tube,
release
the
snap
ring
(11)
from
the
top
of the
piston
tube
and
slide
bearing
assembly
off
the end.
1.
If
desired,
carefully
remove
the
wiper
strip
(16),
back-up
washer
(15)
and
quad
ring
or
"O"
ring
(14)
from
the
inside
of the
bearing
sleeve,
and
also
the
"O"
ring
gasket
(13)
from
the
outside
of
the bearing
sleeve.

. To
remove
the
piston
tube
plug
(19)
with
"O"
ring
(18)
located
in the
lower
end
of the
tube,
the
following
procedure
may
be
used:
1.
Remove
the
nose
wheel
from
the
fork
as
described
in
paragraph
6-21.
2.
Loosen
and
remove
the
bolt,
washer
and
nut
that
extends
through
the
piston
tube
and
block
assembly.
3.
Push
the
plug
through
the
top
of
the
piston
tube
by use
of a
rod
inserted
through
the
bottom
of
the
tube.

CLEANING,
INSPECTION
AND
REPAIR
OF
NOSE
GEAR
OLEO.
a.
Clean
all
parts
with
a suitable
dry
type
cleaning
solvent.
b.
Inspect
the
landing
gear
oleo
assembly
component
for
the
following:
1.
Cylinder
tube
assembly
for
corrosion,
scratches,
nicks
and
excessive
wear.
2.
Lock
rings
for
cracks,
burrs,
wear.
3.
Fork
assembly
for
corrosion,
scratches,
nicks,
and
misalignment.
4.
Link
assembly
for elongated
holes,
cracks,
corrosion,
scratches,
nicks
and
straightness.
5.
General
condition
of
air
valve.
c.
Repair
of
the
oleo
is limited
to
smoothing
out
minor
scratches,
nicks
and
dents
and
replacement
of parts.
