7-1.
DESCRIPTION.
The
PA-32-260
is
powered
by a
Lycoming
engine
of 260
horsepower.
(Refer
to
Power
Plant
Specifications
in
Table
II-I.) The
engine
is furnished
with a
starter.
60-ampere
12-volt alternator,
voltage regulator,
shielded ignition,
vacuum
pump
drive,
fuel
pump,
carburetor,
and a
dry paper
type
carburetor
air
filter. The
exhaust
system
is stainless
steel
directing
gases
inboard
to
the muffler
located
directly
under
the engine.
The
large
muffler
with
a heater
shroud
provides
heat
for
both the
cabin
and defrosting.
A shroud
over
the
left exhaust
stacks
provides
heat for
the carburetor.
The
engine
is provided
with a
fixed
pitch
or
constant
speed
propeller.

TROUBLESHOOTING.
Troubles
peculiar to the
power plant
are listed in
Table VII-I,
at
the back
of this section,
along
with
their probable
causes
and suggested
remedies.
When
troubleshooting
the engine,
ground
the
magneto
primary
circuit
before
performing
any
checks
on the engine.

PROPELLER.

REMOVAL
OF PROPELLER.
(Fixed
Pitch.)
a. Insure
master
and magneto
switches
are off.
b. Move
fuel selector
to off position.
c. Place
mixture
control
in idle
cut-off.
d. Note
position of each
component
to facilitate
reinstallation.
e.
Remove screws
attaching
spinner
cuff and spinner
assembly
and remove
spinner.
f. Remove
the safety
wire from
the six propeller
mounting
bolts
and remove
the bolts
and propeller.

INSTALLING
PROPELLER.
(Fixed
Pitch.)
The
propeller
is installed
on
the
crankshaft
flange
with
six stud
bolts.
Install
the propeller
as follows:
a. Install
rear
spinner
bulkhead.
b. Install
propeller
and tighten
each of the
mounting bolts
finger tight.
Use a torque
wrench
for final
tightening
and tighten
in sequence
so
that all
bolts are
pulled down
evenly.

propeller
track as
given
in Paragraph
7-9.
