Retest Option
Some Hard Codes have a Retest and/or associated
Static Test option. If these tests are available, Press
S for Static Test or Press R to Retest is displayed at the
bottom of the Code screen.
Service Codes that have a static test option are: the
FFI
t fuel injector and t he ignition system. The static
test allows you to instruct the EMM to momentarily acti-
vate a component that is causing the code so you can
verify its operation.
In the Retest mode, the computer constantly scans the
EMM to see if the present Service Code is still being
set. You can use Retest to diagnose and verify some
repairs. For example; Service Code #43 will be set if
an open connection occurs in the Coolant Temperature
sensor circuit.
The Code screen for Service Code #43 has the Retest
feature. If you press R, the Retest screen will be dis-
played. If you wiggle the Coolant Temperature sensor
connector and it momentarily improves contact, the
computer will beep when the connection is good. The
computer will then display a message that the code ap-
pears to be repaired.
If the connection breaks, the computer will beep again
and display the Retest screen. When you exit the Re-
test feature, you will automatically return to the Code
screen. The Class field will reflect the status of the Ser-
vice Code; either Hard or Repaired.
When you are finished with a Code screen, you have
two options: press any key to see the next Code
screen, or press the ESCAPE keytoreturntotheMain
Menu.
