2.11. 8 Chassis Ground and Signal Ground Posts (28004, 28008 and 28016 Systems
only)
CAUTION
The chassis ground and signal ground posts must be properly grounded
to avoid ground loops.
The chassis ground and signal ground posts are located on the rear panel of the 28004, 28008
and 28016 chassis.
28000 systems are shipped with the chassis ground post and signal ground post connected
together. This is the normal operating conguration. This conguration provides a solid low
impedance ground reference for the analog signals and the cable shield connections in the
system.
The chassis ground and signal ground posts would be disconnected from each other only in an
attempt to remove excessive noise. Examples of excessive noise sources include connecting an
analog ground of an acquisition system with a 28000 system or power line related frequencies
(e.g., 60 Hz plus harmonics) created by other equipment on the same power line.
2.11.9 Power Switches and Indicators
WARNING
Before applying power to a 28000 system, ensure that all the CAUTION
and WARNING statements in the previous sections have been correctly
preformed and adhered to.
28002 System Power Switches and Indicators
The 28002 system power switch is located on the front of the mainframe. See Figure 46.
When power is applied, the Status LED on the front panel of the BIF Controller card ashes
for approximately 17 seconds, indicating that the system is performing a boot-up self-test.
After the self-test, the Status LED stops ashing and remains lit. If a system fault is detected,
the Fault LED under the Status LED lights up.
If the Fault LED indicates a system fault, refer to Section 3.3, Troubleshooting.
