10.11UsingAIStoavoidcollisions
YoucanusetheAISsafezoneandsafetymessagefunctionsto
helpyouavoidcollisionswithothervesselsandobjects.
SafeZones
Asafezoneisaringcentredonyourvesselwithinwhichatarget
isconsidereddangerous.Itisdisplayedintheradarorchart
applicationsasaredring.
ThisAISsafezoneusesthesamecriteriaasMARPAandwilldeem
atargetdangerousifitcomeswithinaspecieddistanceofyour
vessel(closestpointofapproachorCPA)withinaspeciedtime
(timetoclosestpointofapproachorTCPA).TheCPAandTCPAare
calculatedusingCOG/SOGandpositionfromtheAIStarget.
WhenyoursystemrecognizesadangerousAIStarget:
•Thetargetsymbolchangestoredandashes.
•Thedangerousalarmdialogisdisplayed(thiscanbedisabledif
required).
•Thedangerousalarmsounds(thiscanbedisabledifrequired).
Note:WhentheAISunitisconnectedandfunctioning,the
systemwillcheckfordangeroustargetswithinthesafezone
andifenabledissueanalarmwhenevernecessary.Dangerous
targetalarmoperatesirrespectiveofthestatusoftheAIStarget
display,orthesafezonering.
SafetyMessages
WhenthestatusoftheAISSafetyMessagesfunctionissettoOn,
anyincomingsafetymessagesfromsurroundingvessels,shore
stationsandmobilestationsaredisplayedinadialogbox.Ifknown,
themessagewillincludethesendingvessel’spositioninlatitude/
longitude.Youwillhavetheoptionto:
•Removethemessage(Ok).
•Placeawaypointonyourchart/radartomarkthesending
vessel’sposition(PlaceWaypoint).
