SeaTalkng®(NextGeneration)isanenhancedprotocolforconnectionofcompatiblemarine
instrumentsandequipment.ItreplacestheolderSea TalkandSeaTalk2protocols.
SeaTalkng®utilizesasinglebackbonewhichcompatibleequipmentconnectstousingaspur.Data
andpowerarecarriedwithinthebackbone.Devicesthathavealowdrawcanbepoweredfromthe
network,althoughhighcurrentequipmentwillneedtohaveaseparatepowerconnection.
SeaTalkng®isaproprietaryextensiontoNMEA2000andtheprovenCANbustechnology.
CompatibleNMEA2000andSeaTalkandSeaTalk2devicescanalsobeconnectedusingthe
appropriateinterfacesoradaptorcablesasrequired.
Multipledatasources(MDS)
MDSisaRaymarineschemeformanagingmultiplesourcesofidenticaldatatypesonthesame
network(e.g.:inanMFDnetworkyoumayhavemorethanonesourceofGPS/GNSSpositiondata).
TheMFDwillautomaticallyselectapreferreddatasource(device)touseforthatdatatype.
MDScanbeusedforthefollowingdatatypes:
•Depth
•Speedthroughwater
•Heading
•GPS
•GPSDatum
•Wind
•Time&Date
Ifyoudonotwanttousetheautomaticallyselecteddatasourceyoucanmanuallyselectyour
preferreddatasource.
Note:
ForMDStobeavailableonyoursystem,allproductsinthesystemthatreportdatamustbe
MDS-compliant.ThesystemwillreportanyproductsthatareNO TMDS-compliant.Itmaybe
possibletoupgradethesoftwareforthesenon-compliantproducts,tomakethemcompliant.Visit
theRaymarinewebsite(www.raymarine.com)toobtainthelatestsoftwareforyourproducts.
IfMDS-compliantsoftwareisnotavailablefortheproductandyoudoNOTwanttousethe
system’spreferreddatasource,youmustremoveanynon-compliantproductsfromthesystem.
Y oushouldthenbeabletoselectyourpreferreddatasource.
Onceyouhavecompletedsettingupyourpreferreddatasources,youmaybeabletoadd
non-compliantproductsbackintothesystem.
Multipledatasourcee xceptions
WiththeEvolutionsystem,thereareanumberofimportantexceptionstothehandlingofmultiple
sourcesofcertaintypesofdata.
Specifically:
•Headingdata—Ifanon-Evolutionsourceofheadingdataisdesignatedbytheuser,theEvolution
systemcomponentswillcombinethisheadingdatawithitsowngyroandaccelerometerdata,
andthenusetheimprovedheadingdata.Thiscombinedheadingdatawillalsobeavailable
tootherequipmentontheSeaTalkng®bus.
•Rudderangledata—Wheretherearemultiplesourcesofrudderreferenceinformation,the
Evolutionsystemcomponentswillignorerudderangleinputsfromanyrudderreferenceunits
thatareNOTconnecteddirectlytotheACU.
