TheAWA/AWSdialidentifiesthecurrentApparentWindAngle(AWA),ApparentWindSpeed(AWS),
minimumwindangle,andmaximumwindangle.
It’simportanttobeawarethatApparentWindisdifferentfromTrueWind,becausewinddirection
andstrengthbecomealotmorecomplicatedonceavesselstartstomove.Whenthishappens,
thewinddirectionandstrengthmeasurementsstartreflectingacombinationofnotonlythewind
conditions,butalsothevessel’smovementandhowitisaffectedbythosewindconditions.Inthis
respect,TrueWindspeedandangledatareflectsthewindconditionswithrespecttoastaticobject.
Incontrast,ApparentWindspeedandangledatareflectsthewindconditionswithrespecttoa
vesselwhenitisunderway.

Aspartofthewindtransducercalibrationprocess,youcanalsoadjusttheApparent
WindSpeed(A WS)readingtocompensateforanysmallerrorswhichmayexistinthe
