TROUBLESHOOTING
Hydraulic System
The word “System” donates hydraulic pump, motor, plus all lines,
valves, filters, controls, etc., leading to and between lines.
SYMPTOM PROBABLE CAUSE CORRECTIVE ACTION
Hydraulic system Fluid Level Low Replenish fluid supply
operating hot. (reservoir
temperature above 180° F)
Internal leakage caused Replace high pressure
by defective high pressure relief valve in pump
relief valves in hydraulic pump
Internal leakage caused by Repair or replace
worn hydraulic pump or motor
Fluid cooler plugged Clean out
Worn Hydraulic pump Repair or replace
Liquid hydraulic pump Set adjustment screw on
bypass adjustment screw side of hydraulic motor to
set to bypass too much oil pump manufacturer’s speci-
fications.
Hydraulic system noisy Air in System Low fluid level in reservoir
replenish fluid supply
Suction line between
reservoir and charge pump
leaking at some point and
allowing air to be drawn
into the system. A good
indication of air in the
system is a considerable
amount of foam in the
reservoir
Hydraulic fluid too Make sure the proper fluid
viscous or too cold is used
If fluid contains sludge,
change it
