By connecting an external MIDI de vice and exchanging perfarmanee data, you can contral ane device from another. For
instance, you can output sound from other instruments, switch sounds or receive MID I data fram an external sequencer
that cause your FR-3x to play.

MIDI,
short for "M u sical Instrument Digital Interface",
was d eveloped as a u niversal st andard for exchange
of performance data wi th ex t ernal devices. T his con-
nector
can be used to connect the FR-3x to an ex ter-
n al d evi ce for eve n grea t er versa tili t y.
Connecting an external MIDI device
to the FR - 3x
The FR-3x has ane MIDI socket that can be used to
either transmit (OUT) or receive (IN) MID I data.
1. Turn the volume all the way down on the
FR-3x and the MIDI deviee you are about to
eonneet.
2. Us e a MIDI eable (sold separately) to eon-
neet the
MIDI soeke ts to ea eh other.

3. Adjust the volume lev e lon the FR-3x and
the eonneeted deviee.
4. Set the "Mld" parameter.
See "M IDI Ou t/I n" on p. 58. Select "O U T" to transm it
MID I da ta to an ex t ernal device . (This is the default
setting.)
Set it to "IN" to receive MIDI d ata fr om an external
device.
5. Set the MIDI ehannel on the FR-3x and the
external deviee as needed.
