4.7.2. Recharging of battery
The energy for the ignition unit and electric starter is supplied only from the battery. With a fully
charged 12V 6,5 Ah battery the engine can be started approx. 100 times and operated for 5 hours.
With decreasing battery voltage the voltage may not be sufficient to turn the electric starter and to
produce an ignition spark. This happens at approx. 12,4 V.
Attention: The lifetime of the battery will be drastically reduced by deep-discharge. Therefore it
is recommended to fully recharge the battery after or before every operation of the
Kart. The more often the battery is rechargaed after short discharge, the longer will
be its lifetime.
Note: If the spark plug is removed to check whether the battery voltage is still sufficient to
create an ignition spark, take care of the following:
Note: With the spark plug removed the electric starter does not have to act against the
resistance of the compression. This means less current consumption of the electric
starter, and the battery voltage in this case may still be sufficient to create an ignition
spark. However, when the spark plug is installed, the engine might not start.
Note: For charging the battery use the recharger
recommended by ROTAX (part no. 265
148).
Note: Depending on the country to which the
engine was delivered, the necessary
country-specific adapter (part no. 266 010
- 266 018) for the recharger is added to
the accessories box. If the included
adapter is not suitable for your region,
contact an authorized distribution partner
or Service Center.
Note: This recharger, when final charging voltage is reached, switches automatically to
conservation charge. This makes overloading with consequent destruction of the
battery impossible, i.e. the battery can remain constantly connected with the
recharger switched ON.
Attention: When using other rechargers the lifetime of the battery may be affected or the
battery may be damaged.
¨ Connect recharger (pos.2) to the charging plug (pos.1) on the battery cover upper part.
Attention: The recharger has no integrated protection against wrong pole connection.
Therefore a mistake in connecting the red ( + ) pole and the black ( - ) pole will
destroy the recharger.
¨ Connect recharger to a main power supply 110 - 230V / 50 – 60 Hz. While charging, the
recharger check lamp lights red.
