8.1. Trouble shooting - engine
Failure
Possible cause
Remedy
Electric connections wrong Check connections, see routing of wiring
harness
Wiring harness damaged Replace wiring harness
Battery not connected Check battery connection
Voltage of battery insufficient Change battery or recharge
Electric starter does not work when
actuating the start button
Electric starter defective Check electric starter, repair / renew if
needed
Electric starter rotates but doesn´t
engage when actuating the start button
Starter gear contaminated Clean starter gear
Gap at shift contact too small Adjust gap accordingly
Voltage of battery insufficient Change battery or recharge it, see Battery
and Battery Recharger
Spark plug defective Replace spark plug
Insufficient fuel in fuel tank refuel
No fuel supply to the carburetor Check connections of fuel pump
Fuel supply lines mis-connected Correct fuel supply connections
Fuel filter clogged Replace fuel filter
Engine does not start
Wiring harness damaged Replace wiring harness
Bad idling adjustment of carburetor Adjust idle speed Engine does not operate at idle speed
and stops running
Carburetor adjustment of air/fuel mixture
composition for idling is not correct
Adjust air/fuel mixture composition for idling
Shift point of exhaust valve not correct Adjust switch point of exhaust valve
correctly
Engine has a performance drop at
approx. 7.000 r.p.m.
