A Relay consists of an electromagnet and a
switch operated by the electromagnet within a
single package.
When 12v is supplied to the two small
terminals on the left of the relay, it causes the
switch to close and supply 80v to the mower.
When 12v is absent, the switch will
automatically open. This causes the mower to
shut off.
While it is standard practice to add a diode
across the electromagnet to suppress spikes,
the diode is internal to the relay on these
models and should require no maintenance.
