A DMM is a standard diagnostic tool that serves as a
voltmeter, ammeter, and ohmmeter. We use this
tool for various tests throughout this guide.

VOLTAGE is potential
energy. For the purposes
of this guide, we only deal
with DC voltage, so make
sure your DMM is set to the
appropriate symbol.
A DIODE is a device that
allows current to flow in
only one direction and
blocks flow in the other
direction. This mode is
used to test diodes.
RESISTANCE is the
opposition to flow of
current. We will use
resistance when measuring
the continuity of a wire or
connection for breaks.

When measuring DC
Voltage, touch the BLACK
probe to the ground and
touch to the RED probe to
voltage being measured.
When measuring Resistance, Continuity, or a
Diode, touch the BLACK probe to one point and
touch to the RED probe to the other point.
