There are different application classes for PROFIdrive according to the scope and type of the
application processes. PROFIdrive features a total of six application classes, two of which
are discussed here.
Application class 1 (standard drive)
In the most basic case, the drive is controlled via a speed setpoint by means of PROFIBUS/
PROFINET. In this case, speed control is fully handled in the drive controller. Typical
application examples include simple frequency converters for controlling pumps and fans.
