BeforetheLMV5canbecommissioned,certainpre‐requisitesmustbemetfortheLMV5control,the
burner,theboiler,andtheboilerroom.Experiencehasshownthatifthepointsbelowareaddressed
properly,commissioningwillbesafe,timely,andtrouble‐free.
Pre‐RequisitesforBasicLMV51Systems
1. Burner/ boilermustbein"good"condition.Burner firinghead mustbe correctforthe boiler
andthe firingheadmustnotbecracked,melted,orotherwisedamaged. Otheritemstocheck
include:
a. Flamescannertubemustsightpilotandmainflamecorrectly.
b. Refractoryshouldnotin
terferewiththeflamescannersightingortheflamepathofthe
burner.
c. Forfiretubeboilers,theflameshouldnotimpingeontheMorrisontube.
2. All
LMV5components(baseunit,actuators,flamescanners,etc.)aremountedproperly.Please
see Section 1 (Overview) and Appendix B (LMV5 Accessories Guide) for mounting details.
Particularattentionshouldbepaidtothefollowing:
a. Actuatorshaftcouplingsmu
staccomplishthefollowing:
i. Compensateforbothangularandparallelshaftmisalignme ntgeneratedbythe
mountingbracket.
ii. Havelittleornobacklash.
iii. Berobustenoughtoabsorbthestalltorqueoftheactuatorwithoutdamage.
Solid(rigid)shaftc
ouplingsarenotacceptableinmostapplications.Clamp‐type
couplingsthathaveaD‐shapeorkeywayarepreferredsincethes ewillnotdamagethe
actuatorshaftanddoprovidepositiveengagement.Inlinkage‐lessapplications,
actuatorcouplingsshouldbeconsideredtobesafety‐relatedcomponents.
NOTE:Donotcoupleactuatortovalve/dampershaftuntilac
tuatorisaddressed,the
directionofrotationfortheactuatorisset,andtheLMV5alarmisreset.Thisis
outlinedlaterinthecommissioningsection.
b. Actuatorbracketsmustberigidenoughsothattheydonotamplifyburnervibration
(divingboardeffect)ordistortsignificantlywhentheactuatorisap
plyingmaximum
torquetothevalve/dampershaft.
