If an LMV52 is being commissioned, activate the O

thananexternalfluegasanalyzer.
Usingafuelflowmeter(temporaryorpermanent)forcommissioningisalwaysagoodideaeven
for LMV51’swithoutO
2
trim.If thefuelinput (heat output)increaseslinearlywith firing rate,
the PID loop in any load control will work much better.A te mporary, insertion type of flow
meterisavailablefromSCCInc.forthispurpose.
Ifburnerheadpressure mustbeusedasalastresorttoestimatefiringrate, bearinmindthat
head pressure does not increase with gas flow in
a linear manner.There is a square root
relationship between the differential pressure across the burn er head and the gas flow.This
relationshipis verysimilartohowthe pressurevariesacrossafixedorificewithanincreaseor
decreaseinflow.Also,furnacepressuremustbeaccountedforbyhookingupbothsidesofthe
manometer,onesidetothebu
rnerheadpressureandonesidetothefurnacepressure.
CarbonMonoxide(CO)is producedwhen combustionisincomplete,typicallyduetotheflame
being too rich or too lean.CO is potentially ex plosive when mixed with air in the right
proportions.For CO to be explosive in air, it must reach a concentration of at least 12.5%
(125,000ppm)withanignitionsourcepresent.
Ifaburneriscommissionedproperly,actuat
orcurvesshouldincreasesmoothlywithincreasing
load (firing rate).One exception to this would be the FGR actuator (Aux1 or Aux3) which
commonlydecreases(closes)asfiringrateincreases.Curvesshouldalwaysbesmooth,withno
sharpcorners
.
The best and fastest meth od to commission a burner with an LMV5 is to set up a small table
wherethetechniciancanhavehislaptop,AZL,fuelflowmeterandexternalfluegasanalyzerall
within arm's reach.This allows the curve points to be input rapidly and accurately.If the
information is entered in the laptop point by point, a very nice start‐up report will also be
generated.
TheACS450softwareisnotasfastasusingtheAZL tocommissionthe LMV5.Sincethisisthe
case, theACS450istypicallynotusedtocommission the LMV5.However, theACS450isvery
valuablewhenusedtodownloadan.mdbfile(allparametersettings,faultandlockouthistory,
inEnglish)andalsowhenusedtodownload.parfiles(themachine‐languageparametersetfrom
the LMV5).It is recommen
ded to download both of these files after commissioning, so that
thereisabackuprecordofallparameterandcurvesettings.
Togobackoutofthemenuandcheckburneroperation,pressthe<and>buttonsatthesame
time.This will take the cursor to Normal Operation, so the normal operation screen can be
viewedbypressingEnter.Thiscanbedoneanywhereinthemenuaslongasasingleparameter
isnotcurrentlydisplayed.PressingEscwilltakethecursorback intowhereitwasin
themenu.
