8 Steering Component Service
Upper Steering System Disassembly
11.Remove the cotter pin (D, Figure 4), washer (E), and
bushing (F) from the steering shaft (C).
12.Remove the four capscrews securing the bulkhead
(F, Figure 3) and remove the bulkhead.
13.Remove the two carriage bolts (P, Figure 4) and
flange locknuts (O) securing the steering mounting
plate (G).
14.Elevate the front of the tractor (see ELEVATING
FRONT END FOR SAFE SERVICE, Section 6).
15.Slide the shaft (C) and mounting plate assembly (G)
out of the tractor.
16.Inspect the shaft and bushings for wear. Replace as
needed.
Steering Gear Removal
Refer to Figure 4.
1. Elevate the front of the tractor (see ELEVATING
FRONT END FOR SAFE SERVICE, Section 6).
2. Loosen the flange locknuts (O, Figure 4) and carriage
bolts (P).
3. Separate the rear of the tie rod (J) from the steering
gear assembly (L) by removing the capscrew (N),
washer (M), and nut (K).
4. Remove the two capscrews (I) securing the steering
gear assembly (L) to the frame.
5. Rotate the steering gear assembly (L) back through
the frame.
6. Remove the steering gear bushing (F). Inspect and
replace if necessary.
