TROUBLESHOOTING
The following are some examples for troubleshooting during the Cutting / Mixing Process.
CONDITION CAUSE CORRECTION
Unit is overloaded
Decrease volume of dry roughage
Restrictor plates are set in too far
Check yellow restrictor plates on tub. Restrictor plates that are in too
far can cause lighter commodities to rise up in the tub instead of
falling down to the bottom. Set restrictor plates into position #1
Hay was not loaded first
Make sure to load dry light commodities first
Bale not processed enough before adding
other commodities
Process dry commodities long enough to make sure core comes apart
Restrictor plates in too far Set restrictor plate to position #1
Has not had sufficient time to mix
Run unit a little longer
Restrictor plates in too far
Set restrictor plates to position #1
Faster loading of commodities
Decrease RPM (VFD only)
Remove knife #4 and/or #3 from auger
Set restrictor plate to position #1
Increase RPM (VFD only)
Make sure dry forage is added first
Let forage process longer before adding other commodities
Add one or more extra knive(s)
Hard core bale, difficult to
break up and process
Tightly wound, coarse roughage
Add an extended backing plate to position #6 or #7 on the augers to
decrease processing time
Over processing of forage
Under processing of forage
Hay boils over top of tub
Hay floats on top of mix
Uneven mix
Forage lengths are too short
Forage lengths are too long
The following are some troubleshooting tips for Supreme Feed Processors that have been in use for a longer period and
are now experiencing problems.
CONDITION CAUSE CORRECTION
It takes longer to cut my dry forage now, than
when the processor was new
Knives worn Check and replace dull knives. Dull knives will lengthen cutting time
The processor takes more horsepower than
it did when new
Knives worn
Check and replace dull knives. Dull knives can act as a brake and therefore require
more horsepower
Auger leading edge worn
Check leading edge of auger for wear. A worn edge will not pull feed from tub wall,
consequently, feed will hang up in spots
Auger kicker plate worn
Check kicker plate for wear. A worn off kicker plate will not direct feed into the
auger, slowing down mixing
There is a dead spot in the tub (feed moves
slower or not at all in a spot)
Hydraulic System
