I/NET Configuration

After installing I/NET, you must configure it to communicate

properly with external devices. This chapter describes the proce-

dures necessary to configure I/NET.

You will need to provide information on any I/NET devices

connected to your serial port(s), on your TCP/IP connection, and

specify a printer port. Instructions are also provided to change

I/NET’s default directory structure, set up a filtering system for

messages, and configure NetPlus Routers (NPRs).

Overview

I/NET uses two different programs to handle communication and

system configuration. I/O Server handles all communication

between your workstation and other I/NET hosts or NetPlus

Routers. Configure is responsible for defining communication

parameters and certain system parameters.

I/O Server must be running for I/NET to communicate, and is

started automatically every time you start I/NET or Configure.

When I/O Server is running, one of two icons, shown in Figure 4-1,

will be loaded into your system tray. The first icon indicates the

workstation has a Tap connected to the serial port. If you are

communicating through the serial port, the icon flashes to indicate

when the I/O Server is transmitting or receiving data. If you do not

have a directly connected Tap, the second icon displays.

Within the Configure program you can set up serial port and

TCP/IP communication parameters, select a printer port, and alter

I/NET’s default directory structure. You also use Configure to setup

NetPlus Routers and define host masking for message routing

requirements from other hosts and NetPlus Routers (NPR).
