The command is sent and the Transpond Data screen opens. With this
screen open—and after the command has been transmitted and any
acknowledgements received—ranges can be acquired and displayed by
touching Transpond (Ping). In addition, touching Repeat before touching
Transpond (Ping) enables continuous ranging on a released transponder
for tracking purposes. Refer to "Acquiring and Displaying Ranges" on
page 4-37 for detailed instructions, including how to use filtering to block
the display of ranges for replies of specific frequencies.
Sending Commands to EdgeTech/EG&G
Acoustic Releases
Release commands can be sent to EdgeTech/EG&G manufactured acoustic
releases. In addition, other transponder command functions, if available, can
be operated as long as the same type of command coding scheme is used.
To send commands to EdgeTech/
EG&G acoustic releases:
1. Touch the Release/Range function
button.
The Release/Range screen opens.
2. Select EdgeTech/EG&G from the
drop-down list as shown in
Figure 4-61.
The EdgeTech/EG&G pop-up
opens as shown in Figure 4-62.
3. Determine the release code for the
transponder. It will be a six-digit
number.
NOTE After sending a release command, the release will acknowledge that
it has been released by transmitting four pings. Receipt of these pings is
indicated by plots of frequency versus range in the thumbnail graph of the
Transpond Data screen along with the display of the frequency, the ranges
and the round trip times. The displayed ranges and round trip times should
be disregarded, however, and if the frequency has been blocked, no plots or
displayed information will be present. Furthermore, as the frequency of
each ping is the same and the round trip time increases for each ping, the
plots in the graph will line up vertically.
