UNIMASTER
6
Use the table of chapter 7 on page 7 to decide the
number and lengths of the extensions necessary,
and assemble as described in chapter 4.
Set to the approximate length by rotating the
barrel (3).
Place the UNIMASTER in the measuring position,
5 MEASURING
and find the correct contact point as already des-
cribed. Rotate the barrel (4) until the dial gauge
needle shows zero.
The size of the part measured is now the sum of
the extension lengths, and the values shown on
the millimetre scale and the barrel.
When measuring inserts are positioned in the axis
of the instrument, measurement with the UNIMAS-
TER follows the Abbe principle:
The reference axis and the measuring axis are in
the same line.
For measuring dimensions larger than 1000 mm in
the horizontal position, the use of support rollers
allows to limit the errors due to the weight of the
instrument.
Bessel Points:
Airy Points:
Maintants the most straight measuring position possible.
Maintains the parallelism of the two measuring
faces. For best measuring precision, we advise the
Airy point support system.
Example
Extension lenghts 150 mm
300 mm
600 mm
Milimetre scale 237 mm
Barrel scale 0,54 mm
Size of component 1287,54 mm

Use of roller supports
(option No. 1160001)
This ideal situation is not possible if contact points
are offset to the reference axis. The measuring
uncertainty that results from this is greater in case
of horizontal measurements than in case of vertical
measurements.
The UNIMASTER bends under the effect of it's own
weight. Through the appropriate choice of roller
support points, the user can considerably des-
crease the error created by such a deformation.
