1.AttachtheUSBdevicetothecomputer.
2.T urnonthecomputer.Ifthecomputercannotbeturnedon,goto“Powersystemcheckout”onpage

3.WhentheThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,repeatedlypressandreleasetheF12key.WhentheBoot
Menuwindowopens,releasetheF12key.
4.UsethearrowkeystoselectUSBHDDandthenpressEnter.Thediagnosticprogramwillbe
launchedautomatically.
5.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentousethediagnosticprogram.
•IfyouhavecreatedthebootablediagnosticmediumonaCD,dothefollowing:
1.T urnonthecomputer.Ifthecomputercannotbeturnedon,goto“Powersystemcheckout”onpage

2.Connectanexternalopticaldrivetoyourcomputer,andinserttheCDintotheopticaldrive.
3.Restartthecomputer.
4.WhentheThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,repeatedlypressandreleasetheF12key.WhentheBoot
Menuwindowopens,releasetheF12key.
5.UsethearrowkeystoselectATAPICDx(x:0,1,...)andthenpressEnter.Thediagnosticprogram
willbelaunchedautomatically.
6.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentousethediagnosticprogram.
Powersystemcheckout
Toverifyasymptom,dothefollowing:
1.Connecttheacpoweradapterandturnonthecomputer.
2.Checkthatpowerissuppliedwhenyouturnonthecomputer.
3.Insertastraightenedpaperclipintotheemergencyresetholetoresetthecomputer.Conrmthe
systemisstillpoweredon.
4.T urnoffthecomputeranddisconnecttheacpoweradapter.
5.Checkthatthebatterypacksuppliespowerwhenyouturnonthecomputer.

Checkingtheacpoweradapter
Ifthecomputerfailsonlywhentheacpoweradapterisused,dothefollowing:
