RetainingtheUUID
TheUniversallyUniqueIdentier(UUID)isa128-bitnumberuniquelyassignedtoyourcomputerat
productionandstoredintheEEPROMofyoursystemboard.Thealgorithmthatgeneratesthenumberis
designedtoprovideuniqueIDsuntiltheyearA.D.3400.Notwocomputersintheworldhavethesame
number.
Whenyoureplacethesystemboard,followthefollowingstepstocreatenewUUIDforthesystemboardif
thesystemboarddoesnothaveaUUID:
1.InstallthelatestversionofLENOVOThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteorMaintenanceKey,and
restartthecomputer.
2.Fromthemainmenu,select4.AssignUUID.AnewUUIDiscreatedandwritten.IfavalidUUIDalready
exists,itisnotoverwritten.
ReadingorwritingtheECAinformation
InformationonEngineeringChangeAnnouncements(ECA)arestoredintheEEPROMofthesystemboard.
TheelectronicstorageofthisinformationsimpliestheproceduretocheckiftheECAhasbeenpreviously
appliedtoamachine.ThemachinedoesnotneedtobedisassembledtocheckfortheECAapplication.
TocheckwhatECAshavebeenpreviouslyappliedtothemachine,usetheECAInformationRead/Write
functionontheLENOVOThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteVersion1.76orlater.
1.InsertthelatestversionofLENOVOThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteorMaintenanceKey,and
restartthecomputer.
2.Fromthemainmenu,select6.SetECAInformation.
3.T oreadtheECAinformation,select2.ReadECA/reworknumberfromEEPROMandfollowthe
instructionsonthescreen.
4.T oreadtheboxbuilddate,select5.ReadboxbuilddatefromEEPROM,andfollowtheinstructions
onthescreen.
AfteranECAhasbeenappliedtothemachine,theEEPROMmustbeupdatedtoreecttheECA's
application.UsetheLENOVOThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteVersion1.76orlatertoupdatethe
EEPROM.
Note:OnlytheECAnumberisstoredintheEEPROM.ThemachinetypeoftheECAisassumedtobethe
sameasthemachinetypeofthemachinethathadtheECAappliedtoit.
