Engine Safety
• Keep your hands, feet, face, clothing, and other
body parts away from the muf er and other hot
surfaces. Allow engine components to cool before
performing maintenance.
• Do not change the engine governor speed or
overspeed the engine.
Servicing the Air Cleaner
Service Interval : Every 150 hours —Inspect the
primary lter (more often in dirty or
dusty conditions).
Every 300 hours/Y early (whichever comes
rst) —Replace the primary air lter (more often
in dirty or dusty conditions).
Every 300 hours —Check the inner air lter
(more often in dirty or dusty conditions).
Every 600 hours —Replace the inner air lter .
Removing the Filters
1. Park the machine on a level surface, disengage
the blade-control switch (PT O), and engage the
parking brake.
2. Shut of f the engine, remove the key , and wait
for all moving parts to stop before leaving the
operating position.
3. Release the latches on the air cleaner and
pull the air-inlet cover of f the air-cleaner body
( Figure 54 ).
4. Clean the air-inlet screen and cover .
5. Install the air-inlet cover and secure it with the
latches ( Figure 54 ).

6. Release the latches on the air cleaner and pull
the air-cleaner cover of f the air-cleaner body
( Figure 55 ).
7. Clean the inside of the air-cleaner cover with
compressed air .
8. Gently slide the primary lter out of the
air-cleaner body ( Figure 55 ).
Note: A void knocking the lter into the side of
the body .
9. Remove the inner lter only if you intend to
replace it.
Important: Never attempt to clean the inner
lter . If the safety lter is dirty , then the
primary lter is damaged. Replace both
lters.

10. Inspect the primary lter for damage by looking
into the lter , while shining a bright light on the
outside of the lter .
Note: Holes in the lter will appear as bright
spots. If the lter is damaged, discard it.
Inspecting the Filters
1. Inspect the inner lter . If it is dirty , replace both
the inner and primary lters.
Important: Do not attempt to clean the
inner lter . If the inner lter is dirty , then the
primary lter is damaged.
