5. Remove the right and left rear tires (Fig. 436). 7. Slide the shift linkage forward away from the trans-
mission (Fig. 438).

8. Support the bottom of the transmission with jack
supports or a hydraulic fl oor jack (Fig. 439).
6. Shift the forward/reverse lever to the forward pos-
ition. This will allow enough clearance to remove
the hairpin cotter. Remove the hairpin cotter that
secures the shift linkage to the shift fork (Fig. 437).
