3. EtherCAT slave information (ESI) file
Download the ESI-file (EtherCAT slave information) for your PLC EtherCAT master at
http://www.vatvalve.com/customer-service/informations-and-downloads/electronic-support-files > ESI
Files.
Upload the ESI-file to your PLC EtherCAT master. The ESI -file specifies the characteristics of the
valve, and is used for the EtherCAT master.
Attention:
If a new VAT ESI-File is necessary please always delete the old one in the corresponding EtherCAT
directory. The VAT ESI-Files are always downwardly compatible!
4. EtherCAT Explicit Device Identification (optional)
Our device supports the Requesting ID Mechanism in accordance to the latest EtherCAT Protocol
Enhancement Specification (ETG.1020).
The use of EtherCAT Device Identification is to identify an EtherCAT slave explicitly. This is necessary for
the following cases:
Hot Connect applications
Within some applications it might be useful to connect or disconnect parts of the network. In this case the
master must have the possibility to identify which part of the network is available.
Prevention against cable swapping
If at least two identical devices are used in one application it might be necessary to prevent the mix-up of
these devices by cable sapping.
Example scenario: Within a tool two identical valves are used as a master and slave valve. The master is
used as pressure controller and the slave as position controller as a kind of a cluster system. To avoid
that the devices are mixed-up and receive wrong process data an explicit identification can be used.
4.1 Configuration via VAT tool:
The «Device ID» can be configured by ‘Control View’, ‘Control Performance Analyzer’ or ‘Universal Hyper
Terminal..
The «set-command» is: «s:25xxxxx000». The xxxxx value is the «Device ID». Valid range is 00001 to
65535.
Value “0” (Default) means device is not configured.
The «get-command» is: «i:25». The answer returns the Device ID «i:25xxxxx000». The xxxxx value is
the current «Device ID».
Consider that the controller must be in local mode to accept the commands!
After a «s:25» command is sent the internal EtherCAT module is reseted and starts up again. Therefore
do not enter any other configuration command during the next 2 seconds.
«c:0100» change into local mode
«c:0101» change into remote mode
