Electrical System Quick Checks
Testing the Charging System
The 4520Z uses a single 12 Volt maintenance free battery mounted under the
operator’s seat. The battery is charged by a 60 Amp 12 Volt alternator mounted to the
engine.
1. Park the machine on a level surface, lower any attachments to the ground, and
engage the parking brake.
2. Turn off any additional system loads (e.g., lights, 12 Volt front and rear).
3. Tilt the seat forward and secure it in place with the seat prop.
4. Increase the engine speed to full throttle.
5. Using a multimeter, check the voltage at the battery terminals. Voltage should be
13.8 — 14.8 Volts.
6. If the charging system performance is less than desired, refer to the Kubota
Service Manual or Troubleshooting Manual for additional information.
Checking the Operation of the Interlock Switches
WARNING
Never operate the machine if the safety interlock system is malfunctioning. Do
not disengage or bypass any switch. Failure to heed this warning could result
in injury to yourself or others, or damage to property.
WARNING
The parking brake must be disengaged during portions of the safety interlock
system test. Place wheel chocks in front and back of the wheels to prevent the
power unit from moving.
CAUTION
Do not disconnect safety switches. They are for the operator’s protection.
Check the operation of the interlock switches daily for proper operation.
Replace any malfunctioning switches before operating the machine.
The 4520 is equipped with a safety interlock system. This system:
• Prevents the engine from starting unless the parking brake is engaged and the
SDLA control is in neutral.
• Prevents the PTO from starting if the operator is not in the seat.
