  If your Xylem Water Pump runs briefly and then stops, consider these possibilities: * **Incomplete priming:** Ensure the pump, piping, and valves are free of all air. Correct any high points in the suction line that prevent complete air removal. * **Suction lift too high:** Check for obstructions at the inlet and examine pipe friction losses. The static lift may be too high. Measure with a mercury column or vacuum gauge while the pump operates. If the static lift is too high, raise the liquid source or lower the pump. * **Air leaks in suction piping:** If pumping water or a non-explosive liquid, and no explosive gas or dust is present, test flanges for leakage with a flame or match, or by plugging the inlet and putting the line under pressure to check for pressure drops. * **Air o...
