c. Tighten the locknuts.
WARNING
Do not over-tighten the brake cables. Over-
tightening will increase brake wear and af-
fect the overall performance of the vehicle.
Premature brake wear can result. Death or
serious personal injury can result from fail-
ing to comply with the warning labels in this
manual.
4. Install:
Service lid
Floor mat
CHECKING THE STEERING OPERATION
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and apply
the parking brake.
2. Check:
Steering wheel operation
Move the steering wheel up and down, and
back and forth.
Turn the steering wheel slightly to the right
and left.
Excessive play Check that the steering
column bolts or steering wheel nut are tight-
ened to specification.
Refer to “STEERING SYSTEM” on page
4-29.
CHECKING THE WHEELS
The following procedure applies to all of the
wheels.
1. Check:
Wheel
Damage/bends Replace.
WARNING
Never attempt even small repairs to the
wheel.
Ride conservatively after installing a tire to
allow it to seat itself properly on the rim.
2. Check:
Radial wheel runout
Lateral wheel runout
Refer to “CHECKING THE WHEELS” on
page 4-19.
3. Check:
Wheel bearings
Refer to “CHECKING THE WHEELS” on
page 4-19.
CHECKING THE TIRES
The following procedure applies to all of the
tires.
WARNING
This model is equipped with low-pressure
tires. It is important that they be inflated cor-
rectly and maintained at the proper pres-
sures.
Tire characteristics
WARNING
Tire characteristics influence the handling of
vehicles. The tires listed below have been
approved by Yamaha Motor Powered Prod-
ucts Co., Ltd. for this model. If other tire com-
binations are used, they can adversely affect
your vehicle’s handling characteristics and
are therefore not recommended.
Tire pressure
WARNING
Tire pressure below the minimum specifi-
cation could cause the tire to dislodge from
the rim under severe riding conditions.
Use no more than the following pressures
when seating the tire beads.
