Communications Network
5.1
Connection to the Internet is strongly encouraged for the SOLECTRIA XGI inverter. The gateway or cellular
modem should have a direct Ethernet connection to one inverter in order to benefit from the remote capabilities
inherent to the inverter, including firmware updates. The inverter communicates locally using Modbus TCP/IP
over Ethernet. See Figure 5-1.

Connecting Multiple Inverters
5.2
To connect multiple inverters together in a network, use one of these approaches: (1) set up an Ethernet daisy
chain, (2) set up a star configuration using Ethernet switches, (3) set up a tree configuration (mixed network),
or (4) set up a ring network with managed switches..
Up to 50 inverters can be connected using the Ethernet daisy chain. See Figure 5-2 and Figure 5-3 . Use a
shielded Cat6 cable with max length 328 ft. (100m) for these connections. In a star configuration up to 100
inverters can be connected on the same network. Mixed networks can support up to 100 inverters if any daisy
chain portion of the network contains 50 inverters or fewer. If longer distances are required, fiber optics can be
used with an appropriate adapter.
