2.8 Operators obligation of diligence
The contractor or owner must also ensure that the electric systems and equipment are operated
and maintained in accordance with electro-technical regulations.
The owner is obliged to ensure that the device is operated in perfect working order only.
The device may only be used as intended.
You must periodically examine the safety equipment for their properly functioning condition.
The assembly instructions and/or operating instructions are always readily available at the location
where the device is being used, are complete and are in legible condition.
These persons are regularly instructed in all applicable questions regarding occupational safety
and environmental protection and are knowledgeable regarding the assembly instructions and/or
operating instructions and, especially, are familiar with the safety instructions contained therein.
All safety and warning notices attached to the device are never removed and remain legible.
2.9 Employment of external personnel
Maintenance and service work are frequently carried out by external employees who often do not
recognize the specic situations and the thus resulting dangers. These persons must be comprehen-
sively informed about the hazards in their area of activity.
You must monitor their working methods in order to intervene in good time if necessary.
3 Product overview
3.1 Application
PMIcontrol Basic-M is the series of ZIEHL-ABEGG frequency inverters for direct mounting on a
motor.
The devices are constructed in accordance with the general requirement in EN 61800-2 for adjustable
speed electrical power systems and is intended for one-quadrantdrives.
Insulation system and ball bearing of the motor must be suitable for speed control by a frequency
inverter.
Only suitable for drives with low set-off torque (e.g.: fans or pumps).
3.2 Functional description
Functions as frequency inverter for either a 3 ~ asynchronous motor or a PMmotor permanent
solenoid-excited synchronous motor.
Once a line voltage is applied, the device detects whether there is a ZAstick in the parameter
interface.
If the parameter set for a PMmotor is detected, the device functions as a frequency inverter for a
permanent solenoid-excited synchronous motor. If no parameter set is detected, the device functions
as a frequency inverter for an asynchronous motor.
Function 1: Frequency inverter for asynchronous motor
In its as-delivered state (without ZAstick in the parameter interface), the device functions as a
frequency inverter for an asynchronous motor that generates a 3 ~ output with variable voltage and
frequency from the AC mains at the input.
The output frequency is set by an external signal (0 - 10 V, 0 - 20 mA, PWM).
Function 2: Frequency inverter for PMmotor permanent solenoid-excited synchronous
motor
Controlling permanent solenoid-excited synchronous motors of the PMmotor series requires the
data record of the motor being used. This can be found on the parameter storage medium ZAstick,
which accompanies this motor.
The speed is set by an external signal (0 - 10 V, 0 - 20 mA, PWM).
Information
These operating instructions describe the use of the PMIcontrol as a frequency inverter for a
3 ~ asynchronous motor.
The use for operation with permanent solenoid-excited synchronous motors is described in the
assembly instructions for fans of the PMblue series.
