6. 2 Test radio units
The test software for the test radio unit is integrated into the standard software. A
rotary switch is on the bottom of the test radio units so that the test phones can
identify the test radio units (position 1..8). Rotary switch positions 0 and E enable
normal operation of the test radio units in a system, whereby position 0 switches
on automatic SW upload and position E switches it off. Before changing the rotary
switch, the test radio unit must always first be disconnected from the power
source.
Power supply
The test radio units are designed to be operated with the 12 V lead-acid batteries,
but they can also be operated with the supplied plug-in power supply units. Sup-
plying the test radio units with power via the DSI line, however, is not possible. The
lead-acid batteries can be charged while operating the test radio units.
Lead-acid Batteries
The 12 V lead-acid batteries may be charged only with the charging devices in-
tended for that purpose. For charging, the charging device switch must be set to
the 12 V position. The LED on the charging unit indicates the battery’s charge level.
Lead batteries can be stored in the fully charged state.
When the lead-acid batteries are fully charged, the operating time of a test radio
unit is about 12 hours. When the battery charge becomes low, it is indicated by the
test radio unit LED (see Tab. 3).
Note:
Be absolutely sure to observe the "THIS SIDE UP" notice on the lead-acid
battery. During recharging, ensure that the battery is positioned so that
the indicated side is up. This is for safety reasons, since otherwise there is
the danger that the battery leaks out.
