6. 3. 1. 4 Antenna Selection and Diversity
1)
The test radio unit (like a SB-8ANT) has 2 internal antennas and 2 external antenna
connections (see Fig. 19). Special coverage requirements can be satisfied with ex-
ternal antennas. Dual antennas, which support antenna diversity, are normally
used. (See also "Using external antennas", page 27.) In exceptional cases, it may also
be possible to use two separate external antennas that do not cover the same
range. To measure out the individual coverage ranges, the antenna diversity can be
deactivated for measuring purposes and one of the two external antennas selected
as fixed.
Note:
Operation with external antennas that do not cover the same range
increase the probability of interference (minor drop-outs, drop-outs, etc.),
since the fading effects cannot be counteracted.
Toggling Internal/External Antennas
If a test phone has a connection to a test radio unit, you can toggle between the in-
ternal and external antennas of the test radio unit. All connections of this test radio
unit are then via the selected antennas:
1. Press the ”M” key repeatedly until "Antenna" appears
2. Press the Foxkey "Antenna"
3. Use Foxkey ”>” to select the desired antennas
4. Confirm with Foxkey "OK"
The antenna selection (internal/external) is displayed on the test phone (see "Detail
Display of ”Connection Quality”", page 56) and on the test radio unit ("Flashing se-
quences of the pilot LED on the test radio unit", page 51).
Switching Antenna Diversity On/Off and Selecting the Antenna
If a test phone is in a call connection (loopback connection or connection to an-
other test phone), antenna diversity can be deactivated and switched permanently
to one of the two internal or external antennas. The current connection then uses
only this antenna:
1. Set up a loopback or call connection
2. Press the ”M” key repeatedly until "AntDiv" appears
1)
Possible only with a test phone
