2-2 Option 100 Fault Location and SRL
Cable Preparation
Cable preparation (for slip-on connectors) can be critical for some SRL
measurements, especially when measuring mainline cables with an SRL
of −30 dB or lower. An improperly prepared cable can degrade the
cable/connector response which may affect the measurement enough to
make a “good” cable fail.
This chapter describes the most common cable preparation problems
that should be avoided in order to obtain good measurements.
The measurement results shown are similar to the actual results that
may be obtained with each cable preparation problem. Their purpose is
to provide you with an idea of what type of measurement results to
expect.
NOTE The procedures and illustrations in this manual assume the use of an
Agilent Technologies 8712ET or 8714ET. If you are using an Agilent
Technologies 8712ES or 8714ES, some key presses and displays will be
slightly different.
