FUNCTIONAL CHECK AND STARTUP OPERATIONS
9. FUNCTIONAL CHECK AND STARTUP OPERATIONS
This is an important step in the installation of the boom barrier system:
Please refer to the section ‘1. Safety and warning regulations’. All rules and requirements
must be followed.
Check that the boom barrier is unlocked (section ‘4.4. Manual unlock’). Make sure that
unlocking in the end position is performed without any problems (easy).
Check boom balancing (section ‘4.5. Boom balancing’). Make sure that there is no resistance
to movement, no defects in assembly and adjustment when moving the boom manually.
Lock the barrier. Perform a complete open-close cycle using the control device (control
buttons, remote control). Make sure that the boom moves in the correct directions,
stops at the end positions and the boom moves evenly with a smooth stop at the end of
the movement (section ‘5. Mains connection and open-close setting’). Carry out several
complete cycles to detect possible defects in installation, incorrect adjustment and setting,
to make sure that the barriers are secure and functioning properly.
Check the correct position of the boom at the end positions (section ‘4.6. Adjusting the
boom position’).
Check that the control commands (opening, closing, stopping motion) of the applied
controls are executed correctly. The operation of the control devices must correspond to the
commands of the control inputs (Table 4) and the commands of the recorded radio control
boxes (Table 6) according to the preset settings (Section ‘7. Settings’).
Check correct and successful performance of the applied light indication devices (signal
lamp, integrated LED lamp, boom illumination, traffic light). The operation of the light
indication devices should correspond to the performed settings (section ‘7.2. Adjustment
ofoperation parameters’).
Check the correct operation of each connected safety device (photocells, contact sensors,
stop motion devices and others). Make sure that the control unit is operating correctly. For
example, if the safety device is activated when closing, the movement stops and the next
full opening occurs. The actuation of the safety devices is indicated by the control unit
display (Table 19, Table 20).
heck that the photocells (inputs PH1 and PH2, Fig. 37, terminal block 4) function correctly
in accordance with the standards (EN 12453, EN 12445) and that they do not interact with
other devices. One or two parallelepipeds (test samples) of rigid material (e.g. wooden bars)
with dimensions 700×300×200 mm (all sample requirements are specified in EN 12445) are
required for testing. If one pair of photocells is installed, one sample should be detected
when checking according to the fig. 51. If two pairs of photocells are installed, the check
according to Fig. 52 shall detect both samples. The samples should be detected by the
photocells at an offset along the length of the boom. If two pairs of photocells are installed
(Fig.52), the test shall be carried out separately for each pair of photocells using one sample,
and then for two photocells using two samples.
Make sure that stopping the opening by hand in the middle of the boom will stop the
motion.
The barrier settings must meet the requirements of safety standard EN 12453 for limiting
the impact force. Check that if the barrier boom comes into contact with an obstacle when
closing, the movement stops and then opens.
At the end of the check, make sure that all removed covers, doors and protective elements
of the barrier have been installed back in place.
The barrier system may only be put into operation after the check has been completed
successfully. Do not allow partial or temporary start-up.
Prepare and store the technical documentation for the automatic performance package.
The documentation must contain: assembly and operating manual, maintenance schedule,
diagram of the boom barrier system and electrical cabling.
