Manual Span Gas Calibration
A Manual Span allows you to Span calibrate individual gas species. The
analyzer span factors are adjusted automatically at the completion of the
Span. See also “Setting Gas Calibration Parameters” in Chapter 4.
To perform a Span gas calibration:
1. From the Gas Calibration dialog box, click AutoZero to perform an
Auto-Zero to automatically adjust the analyzer zero. The zero offset is
adjusted based on the average reading during the Integration Timer
duration at the end of the Auto Calibration Timers (example, AZ-0)
countdown.
2. After the Auto-Zero process is complete, record the Zero gas pressure
setting and then turn off the Zero gas.
3. Remove the Swagelok cap from the Manual Calibration Gas Injection
fitting and connect the Span gas tubing. See Figure 5-3 for a general
layout and refer to the Overall Component Layout drawing in the
Documentation Package shipped with the analyzer.
4. Adjust the Span gas pressure to the recommended pressure listed on
the system drawings. The pressure must be less than the 1380 kPag
(200 psig) maximum Cell Pressure.
5. Change the Flow Control setting to ‘3’ (span1) or ‘4’ (span2) then
click Apply (next to Flow Control text field). Click OK to return to the
Setup tab but do not save the changes to EEPROM.
6. Change the span concentration (Span Conc) value of the gas spe-
cies to be calibrated to the actual Span gas value that is being used.
Click OK to return to the Setup tab but do not save the changes to
EEPROM.
7. From the Analyzer Data tab, observe the Span Concentration read-
ings. After the readings have stabilized, return to the Gas Calibration
dialog box and click the ManSpan button for the gas species being
calibrated. To check the time remaining for the span function, observe
the Time to end of cal(sec) timer under Countdown timers on the
Analyzer Data tab. You can also verify that the span calibration is in
progress by viewing Calibration/Solenoid Status field in the upper-
right corner of the Status tab. It should display “Manual-span1” (or
“Manual-span2” for Model 932S Analyzers only).
At the completion of the Span, confirm that the Span Factor (SFactor,
Gas Calibration dialog box) for the species has been updated. The
default value for Span Factor is 1.0.
