2.1. GENERAL
Because you, the operator, are the only part of the machine that can think and reason, your
responsibility is not lessened by the addition of operational aids or warning devices. Indeed,
you must guard against acquiring a false sense of security when using the machine. Control
and alarm devices are there to assist, NOT to direct the operation of the machine.
You, the operator, are the only one who can be relied upon to assure the safety of yourself and
those around you. Be PROFESSIONAL and follow the SAFETY RULES.
This machine must only be used and maintained by trained and authorised personnel. This
training must be provided by qualified personnel.
The operator must acquire a thorough understanding of the characteristics and operating limits
of this machine, regardless of experience acquired with similar equipment.
The operator must read and understand the contents of this manual. The manual must be kept
in the document case on the work platform for future reference.
All operating personnel must be familiar with the emergency controls and the emergency
operation of the machine.
The operator must interrupt the machine's operation in case of malfunction or any safety-
related problem concerning the machine or the operating environment.
Persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs or who are subject to seizures, dizziness or
loss of physical control must not be permitted to operate this machine.
2.1.1 OPERATOR TRAINING
Operator training must include instruction in the
following:
• Use and limitations of the controls of the
platform and at the ground, emergency
controls and safety systems.
• Operation of safety systems and the
operations to perform in response to a
triggered alarm.
• Knowledge and understanding of the
warning decals on the machine.
• Knowledge of current regulations
governing this type of machine.
(Classification: Group A - Type 3).
• Sufficient knowledge of the mechanical operation of the machine to recognise incorrect
operation, a malfunction or a potential malfunction.
• Inspection and checks prior to start-up.
