10. Integrator rod
10.1 Introduction
Functionality of the integrator rod
The integrator rod is made of fused silica. T he cross-section of the rod has the same aspect ratio as the active surface of the DM D’s
used in the light processor. Th e function of the integrator r od is to match the s hape of the light path to the shape of the DM D ’s and
to neutralize the hot spot effect caused by the light source. Futhermore, the integration rod ens ures that the light b eam is focus ed
on the DM D’s, which res ults in an optimally focused light beam on the screen.
The integrator rod is located at the entrance of the light pipe. The light emitted by the lam p is reflec ted via the “cold mirror” into the
rod, which integrates the incom ing light into a homogeneous rectangle shaped beam of light.

. C learly the rod may never be con-
taminated with gre ase, dirt, liquid or the s uch. for optimal protection the rod is mounted inside an aluminium tube, w hich requires
replacing together with the rod. Th is aluminum tube also contains an adjustment mec hanism to position the rod inside the light pipe.
The integrator rod, the aluminium tube and the adjustment mechanism together form
the “integrator rod assembly”.
CAUTION: Use cotton gloves to h andle the integrator rod. Greasy fingerprints or other dirt on the integrator
rod will b urn into the rod and cause perm anent damage.
