3.5.1 Function introduction to MT1389S
1. General Description
MediaTek MT1389S is a DVD system-on-chip (SOC) which incorporates advanced features like
MPEG-4 video decoder, WMV-9 decode, high quality TV encoder, USB2.0, MS/SD/MMC reader, state-of-art
de-interlace processing, SACD2.0 decoder, ATRAC audio file support, built-in DVB-T decoder, and HDMI1.2
compatible transmitter. The MT1389S enables consumer electronics manufacturers to build high quality,
feature-rich DVD players.
World-Leading Technology: Based on MediaTek’s world-leading DVD player SOC architecture, the
MT1389S is the 4th generation of the DVD player SOC. It integrates the MediaTek 3rd generation front-end
analog RF amplifier and the Servo/MPEG AV decoder.
Enjoy the attractive video on digital TV: The most popular HDTV input format is HDMI interface, it
provides up to 1080P high resolution video output and high quality audio output. The MT1389S has built-in
HDMI transmitter with version 1.2 that can support of DSD (used by SACD) audio format. It gives the
MT1389S the capability to output the lossless SACD digital signal.
Ready for most popular video content in internet: Windows Media Video 9 is the Microsoft
implementation of the VC-1 SMPTE standard. It supports Simple, Main, and Advanced profiles. The
MT1389S can playback the WMV9 file to catch the new star of video content that becomes more and more
popular in internet.
Rich Feature for High Valued Product: To enrich the feature of DVD player, the MT1389S equips a
MPEG-4 video decoder supporting the MPEG-4/DivX1 advanced simple profile (ASP). The MT1389S also

playback all the SACD discs without extra chips, provides user ultra high-end audio quality. DVB-T (Digital
Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial) is the DVB European consortium standard for the broadcast transmission of
digital terrestrial television. The MT1389S can decode the DVB-T transport stream to support the same
function as set-top box. ATRAC (Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding) is an audio format that can
compresses audio data while maintains audio quality. OpenMG is a copyright management, protection, and

for digital media content, The MT1389S can playback the ATRAC file with OpenMG protected.

advanced motion-adaptive de-interlace algorithm to achieve the best movie/video playback. It also supports a
