Overview

This document describes the APT.line™ VD Vacuum Drying Oven, a device designed for gentle drying of heat-sensitive materials and for applications requiring a controlled atmosphere. It features a microprocessor program controller (RD3) for precise operation.

Function Description

The VD vacuum drying oven is designed for special drying methods that cannot be achieved with a solution due to physical limitations. It utilizes a vacuum to lower the boiling point of liquids, allowing for gentle drying at lower temperatures, which is ideal for heat-sensitive materials. The device can also be used for applications requiring a controlled atmosphere, such as inert gas drying.

The multifunctional program controller RD3 allows for simple and convenient operation. It features a touch function keypad and a digital display, providing precise temperature setting and programming capabilities. The controller offers extensive programming options, including week program timer and real-time clock functions.

The oven features an electro-polished inner chamber, rack holders, and all unit's vacuum connections and valves made of especially corrosion-resistant stainless steel V4A (material no. 1.4571 in Germany). The housing is RAL 9005 powder-coated. All corners and edges are also completely coated. The operating temperature can reach up to 150 °C / 302 °F. The impact of the oxygen in the air may cause discoloration of the metallic surfaces (yellowish-brown or blue) by natural oxidation processes. These discolorations are harmless and do not impair the function or quality of the unit.

The vacuum drying ovens in the APT.line™ are jacket-heated. The APT.line™ preheating chamber technology ensures a completely homogeneous jacket temperature, ensuring uniform heat transfer into the inner chamber. The low-loss heat transfer to the material uses the patented aluminum vacuum expansion racks (optionally available in stainless steel). The elastic-mounted safety glass window reliably compensates any overpressure expansions that may occur. The additional polycarbonate panel ensures proven and effective splinter protection in the event of an implosion.

All VD units provide an inert gas connection and a measuring connection serving to connect a vacuum controller or a measuring access port. The vacuum drying oven is equipped as standard with a large-surface safety valve. The toughened safety glass window is elastic-mounted and in the event of an explosion serves as a safety valve. The additional plastic panel provides splinter protection.

The VD vacuum drying oven is equipped with a serial interface RS 422 for computer communication, e.g., with the communication software APT-COM™ 3 DataControlSystem (option, chap. 16.8).
