10.5.2 The Active Aperture
The Active Aperture (AA) is the largest circular region
that fits within the displaceable controllable area of the DM surface.
10.5.2.1 The Active Aperture for Continuous DMs
For continuous DMs, the Active Aperture is a circle inscribed within the outer
controllable actuators. The area within the Active Aperture is displaceable
but not fully controllable at the edges because the controllable outer actuators
are coupled to actuators further out that cannot be controlled.
The diameter of the Active Aperture is ([actuators across] -1) x [pitch]

10.5.2.2 The Active Aperture for Segmented DMs
For segmented DMs, the Active Aperture is a circle inscribed within the outer
controllable segments. The area within the Active Aperture is fully controllable.
The diameter of the Active Aperture is [actuators across] x [pitch]
