14. Rx An indicator (typically yellow) on the bottom right corner which indicates the UGC is transmitting
data.

3.2.3 Filter Columns
One or two types of filter media, housed in user-serviceable columns, are exclusively used by the Universal Gas
Conditioner to trap or remove specific gases. The columns should be positioned and secured vertically in a
bracket. For all columns, unfiltered gas enters the top of the column and the filtered gas is drawn from the
bottom.
The following sections detail the specific filter media used and how to check and replace them.
Indicating Drierite
Indicating Drierite is used as a desiccant or drying agent to remove water vapor. It is naturally occurring
gypsum (Anhydrous Calcium Sulfate, CaSO4) impregnated with Cobalt Dichloride (CoCL2). Drierite is blue in
color when active and changes to pink when it absorbs moisture indicating exhaustion. One or two columns of
Drierite provide more than 36 or 72 hours of continuous use respectively.
Under no circumstances should the last column of Drierite be allowed to become more than
90% exhausted (pink in color) leaving about 2cm or 1inch of blue, active media remaining.
Replace exhausted media as detailed in the Filter Media Replacement section.
Indicating Soda Lime
Indicating soda lime is used as a scrubber to provide a carbon dioxide (CO
2
) free gas source from room air. It is
mostly Calcium Hydroxide (Ca(OH)
2
) and less that 4% of Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH). Soda lime is white in color
when active and changes to pink when it absorbs carbon dioxide indicating exhaustion. When the Chemical or
